Job

Being a snowboard instructor is not a 100% job, but a 50% job at maximum. A normal 100% job in tourism has about 183 working hours a month, that is about 8.66h a day. No snowboard instructor can work that much as his clients don't start their day at 8 and also the lift companies normally open from 8:30-16:00. Normally you can't work more than 5h per day on the snow, for an experienced and well educated snowboard instructor, 6h per day are the maximum. You also have to take into account that there are seasonal variations in demand and that you won't be able to work that much except during Christmas vacation as well as february and Easter vacations. It is best to calculate with 40-50% work which is around 80-100 hours a month. If that isn't enough, you can look for a side job: service man, taxi driver, waiter, kitchen help or night watchman are only a few possibilities. A side job in the evenings has one big advantage: the more you work, the less you spend ;-)

Application

Apply as soon as possible! Many schools have a team of instructors which return each year. Therefore the work spaces are limited. Spring is the best time to apply for the coming season. At that time you can also see how the school is run and it leaves you enough time to plan all other details such as housing etc. If available, use the online application form on the website of the school you would like to apply for a job. If there is none, send an application by email or post with a good picture of yourself that shows you as you are, because your appearance and looks are your first impression. Be ready for a personal job interview at your new workplace.
